National Health and Fitness Day 2021

Hey Gee-Gees! It has been a long year of COVID restrictions and lockdowns. You have been working so hard this past semester and now it is time to give your brain a rest and get your body moving. Let’s all come together to participate in this year’s National Health and Fitness Day (NHFD)! NHFD recognizes the health and wellbeing of Canadians across the country and encourages individuals to engage in physical activity on the first Saturday of June, every year. NHFD will take place June 5th, 2021, and encourages you to find a way to move, feel good and share the joy of activity outdoors. For more information about the National Health and Fitness initiative, check out their website. (https://www.nhfdcan.ca/).

Interested in participating in this year’s National Health and Fitness Day? All are welcome! The Health Promotion team and the Campus Recreation team have set up a fun contest for you and your peers, that could lead to you walking away with some sweet Gee-Gees swag or a virtual consultation with a Personal Trainer.

How does the contest work?
  • Starting May 30th and ending June 6th
  • Submit pictures of you, your household or bubble buddies engaging in health & fitness activities for the week and show off your Gee-Gees apparel and merch!
  • Submissions could also include a 15 sec video (TikTok) showing your fitness activities for the week.
  • If you are not comfortable posting a video or submitting a picture, create a haiku (a Japanese poem consisting of three short lines that do not rhyme) and submit that!
  • Health Promotion will be accepting submissions through their IG account, or you can submit your content by emailing healthpromo@uottawa.ca
If you are stuck trying to think of ways to get active, check out the Gee-Gees Fitness Community Facebook group (“Gee-Gees Fitness Community”) for tips from personal trainers and other uOttawa community members. Going for a walk, hike, bicycle ride or playing a game of soccer or basketball could be a few fun ways to participate. Personally, I will be adding four square and jump rope to my list of activities for National Health and Fitness Day😊Let’s do this together Gee-Gees!
