Health Promotion 101

by: Pablo del Cid

Welcome back uOttawa! Another year, another first day of school, but much like the rest of the world, this September is going to look a little different. For the department of Health Promotion this means re-imagining what student outreach looks like in a virtual world, and we think we’ve come up with some pretty awesome alternatives.

First, much like myself, Health Promotion will be spending much more time on Instagram. The same volunteers who used to roam FSS with their red shirts will now instead focus on created cool and engaging content for the Feed, for Stories & even brand-new Reels. Check out @uohealth.uosante to see what our summer volunteer team came up with over these last 4 months. You can also follow us on Twitter @uohealthsante for the most up-to-date information on health promotion at uOttawa.

We’re also taking advantage of this new virtual reality to inject even more fun into outreach. You can join us every week for Trivia Tuesday and earn points over the course of the entire semester. The player with the most points at the end of the fall semester will win a $250 gift card for the campus bookstore!

Our team is also excited to bring you our monthly virtual escape! If you like puzzles and solving clues, then this free event is the one for you. Play solo or with a group of friends to be entered in a draw for fun prizes.

On top of that, we’re also hard at work producing content for this very Blog, where you can find fun and educational articles written by our Peer Educators. We’re also launching our Wellness Talks series, where our Peer Educators interview health professionals with your questions on important health topics. Check out the first episode on our IGTV!

Another cool new initiative we’re launching this semester in collaboration with Residence Life is our new Wellness Chat! Peer Wellness Educators, students like you and I, will be manning the lines from 11am to 11pm, 7 days a week. They’ll be ready to help you navigate your way around the plethora of wellness services available to you as a student.

Keep an eye out on our social media @uohealth.uosante and our website uottawa.ca/health/health-promotion to keep up to date with all our cool initiatives.
