Coping with stress

4 FREE weekly events on campus

It’s already been a month since university has started again. It could be your first year at the University of Ottawa or your fourth year, but in both cases, starting school can be very overwhelming. Moving away from your family and friends, changing your environment, going to a new school, all these situations can be stressful for all of us! Juggling between school, your part-time job, your extra-curricular activities and your social life is the situation for most of us during our university journey. Mental health is of the utmost importance and we, as students, tend to take it for granted.

Health Services thought about everything and have organized amazing events on campus from Monday to Friday (with the exception of Tuesdays) to help you destress and take your mind off of schoolwork. All these activities are completely FREE and open to all students and staff.

On Mondays, join the weekly yoga sessions in partnership with Sports Services. You will get to work on your core building to help with long study sessions.

What’s better than meditation to reach a peaceful state of mind and help put your body in a state of complete restfulness? Join the guided meditation sessions taking place every Wednesday. These guided meditation sessions help you destress by using breathing techniques and mindfulness.

On Thursdays, Health Services offers one on one 20 minute sessions with a Reiki Master. If you’ve never heard of Reiki, it is your chance to try it! The Reiki Master has the ability to spot the affected parts of your body - where negative thoughts and feelings are stocked - and fill them with positive energy. These Reiki sessions are amazing to help you destress during, before or after exam sessions! Book your appointment today. Call (613) 564-3950 x290 or come see us in UCU 203.

Do you miss your dog back home or simply need a moment to relax and destress? Join the weekly Pet Therapy on Fridays where two to three certified therapy dogs are on campus to offer group therapy. The dogs are certified via Ottawa Therapy Dogs or Therapeutic Paws of Canada.

All these events are here to help all of us take care of our mental health and relax.
